چکیده

A case of temporary acquired central hypoventilation following craniopharyngioma surgery is presented. This is a complication which has not been previously described in suprasellar surgery. Potentially mechanisms of the respiratory disorder are discussed. The most likely etiology is felt to be respiratory drive depression stemming from hypothalamic injury. (J Pediatr Neurol 2004; 2(3): 165-168).

Early Ectopic Recurrence of Craniopharyngioma in the Cerebellopontine Angle.

Ectopic recurrence of craniopharyngioma in the cerebellopontine angle after surgical resection of a suprasellar craniopharyngioma is rare. Thus, only 5 cases were reported with a delay ranging between 4 and 26 years after removal of the primary tumor. We report a unique case of ectopic recurrence of craniopharyngioma in the cerebellopontine angle, which occurred at only 4 months after surgical ...

Central alveolar hypoventilation syndrome due to surgical resection for bulbar hemangioblastoma.

A 29-year-old man with a history of resected bulbar hemangioblastoma was admitted to hospital with nighttime breathing disturbance, but with apparently normal breathing while awake. After diagnostic work-up, including polysomnographic testing, he was diagnosed as having central alveolar hypoventilation syndrome due to surgical resection for bulbar hemangioblastoma. Preservation of Pituitary Function after Endonasal Craniopharyngioma Surgery: Case Report and Review of the Literature

Craniopharyngiomas comprise approximately 3% of all intracranial tumors. Preservation of pituitary function after resection represents a significant challenge due to their location in the anterior skull base and aggressive local behavior. We report a case of a 79-year-old woman with a large suprasellar craniopharyngioma who presented with visual loss. MRI revealed a suprasellar cystic mass with...

Alveolar hypoventilation syndrome in brainstem glioma with improvement after surgical resection.

A 3-year-old boy presented with brainstem astrocytoma and central alveolar hypoventilation syndrome. Contrast MRI of the brain showed that the tumor involved the cerebellum, with compression of brainstem, and resolved after surgical resection. Polysomnography performed before and after total tumor resection showed significant improvement in nocturnal respiratory rate, respiratory disturbance in...
